Buying and installing frosted window film in your home or business, is easier than you might think, and it only takes a few minutes to start enjoying the various positive benefits of this product. If you are fortunate enough to have standard sized windows installed through out the house, then you are way ahead of the game. Window film products are packaged in two ways; they are either cut to size specific windows or come in bulk rolls of fifty or one hundred-foot rolls. You can of course buy these products online or at your local home improvement retailer. If you have never taken on a project like this, you will want to just start and experiment with one window to work out all the kinks, and make sure you are happy with the look and feel.
You may want to shop locally for your first frosted window installation, and then once you have decided on the manufacturer, and specific model you can save money on additional purchases via online stores, and auctions. Supporting local business is always a good idea, but in the end, cost savings always wins out, and this film is not an exception. You can usually realize a ten to thirty percent discount on the Internet sans shipping and handling costs.
For the most part frosted window films install easily with simple tools that you will usually have around your house. You will need a bucket of warm soapy water, a small squeegee, and lint free drying and buffing cloths. In addition, a utility knife with a new razor blade installed, and possibly a felt lined squeegee to assist in smoothing the film out. Your window must be cleaned to perfection in the preparation stage, and all paint and other debris should be completely removed from the glass’ surface area. It is a good idea to put the crevice attachment on your vacuum cleaner and go over the edges, and windowpane crevices to get rid of any loose debris that might attach itself to the backside of the film during the install.
After the glass has dried and you have buffed it with the linen cloth, you will want to take a new sponge or cloth and dunk it into the soapy water. Wring out any excess water and then lightly wipe down the entire surface of the glass area. This will allow you to adjust the privacy window film as it being applied, and assist in getting rid of any air bubbles or pockets. You may want to do this procedure when the sun is not directly hitting the window so the soapy solution will not dry too quickly.Apply the frosted glass film from the top edge of the window and slowly work your way down to the bottom, while making sure that the film is softly yet firmly in place. Once this is done, stand back, and inspect what changes need to be made to complete the installation. If there is a slight overhang from the film on to the frame, then use the utility knife to gently trim off the excess. Examine the entire area for bubbles and use the felt squeegee to eradicate them and get a tight seal.
